Ron Klain Biography
Ron Klain aka Ronald Alan Klain is a renowned American attorney, political consultant, and former lobbyist serving as White House chief of staff under President Joe Biden. He is a Democrat who previously served as the chief of staff to two vice presidents, Al Gore from 1995 to 1999 and Joe Biden from 2009 to 2011.
After the emergence of Ebola virus cases in the United States, President Obama appointed him as White House Ebola Response Coordinator, a position he held from 2014 to 2015.
He served as a senior advisor to Biden’s presidential campaign in 2020. Following his victory, Biden announced Klain’s appointment as White House chief of staff on November 12.
In 1979, Ron graduated from North Central High School, where he was a member of the school’s Brain Game team, which finished second in the season. In 1983, he graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude. He graduated from Harvard Law School with a magna cum laude Juris Doctor degree in 1987.

Klain worked as the legislative director for U.S. Representative Ed Markey (D–MA) from 1983 to 1984. During the 1987 and 1988 years, Klain worked as a legal clerk for Supreme Court Justice Byron White.
He was Chief Counsel to the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary from 1989 to 1992, where he oversaw the legal staff’s work on constitutional law, criminal law, antitrust law, and Supreme Court nominations, including the 1991 Clarence Thomas Supreme Court nominee. Senator Tom Daschle nominated him as the Senate Democratic Leadership Committee’s Staff Director in 1995.
Klain joined the Clinton-Gore team in 1992 and was a key figure in Bill Clinton’s two presidential campaigns. Clinton’s judicial nominees were overseen by him.
Klain served as Associate Counsel to the President at the White House, where he directed judicial selection efforts and led the team that secured Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s confirmation. In 1994, he became Attorney General Janet Reno’s Chief of Staff and Counselor, and in 1995, he became Al Gore’s Chief of Staff.

Klain was one of the people who helped Barack Obama prepare for the 2008 presidential debates in the United States. On November 12, 2008, Roll Call reported that Klain had been appointed as Vice President Joe Biden’s Chief of Staff, a position he previously held for Al Gore.
Klain had previously worked with Biden, assisting Biden’s speechwriting staff during the 1988 presidential campaign and serving as counsel to the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary while the committee was chaired by Biden.
On October 17, 2014, Klain was named the “Ebola response coordinator,” also known as the “Ebola czar.” Despite the fact that Klain had “no record or competence in Ebola specifically or public health in general,” according to Julie Hirschfeld Davis of The New York Times, Ezra Klein welcomed the choice because of his bureaucratic experience with coordinating agencies. His job as an Ebola response coordinator ended in February 2015.
