Sierra Capri Biography
Sierra Capri is an American actress who played Monse Finnie in the Netflix series “On My Block.” Capri was born and raised in Baltimore before moving to Georgia at the age of twelve. She’d always wanted to be an actress since she was a child. Sierra promised her parents that she would finish college before going into full-time work.
Capri never pursued acting as a career. She worked as an uncredited extra in the 2016 films Hidden Figures and Neighbors as a college student studying biology in Savanna, Georgia. She auditioned for the Netflix original series On My Block while working on Hidden Figures, using the help of another actor on set to submit audition tapes.
Capri told Terroirin 2018, “I was bracing myself for anything at that moment,” but it didn’t really hit me until one of the casting directors emailed me and said, “We like you.” Is it possible for you to FaceTime one of the producers tomorrow? ” Lauren Iungerich, the show’s creator, was the person who said that. She also dropped out of college to film the show after accepting the lead part of Monse Finnie, an Afro-Latina adolescent. The ensemble cast was hailed for their performances, and the show gained critical acclaim. Capri is not Afro-Latina, but she remarked in an interview with Remezcla that she can relate to Monse “in the sense that I’m multicultural and I didn’t know that I was multicultural growing up. I wasn’t that accepted by either side.”

Sapri also starred in the idle film American Skin, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September 2019 and starred as Kai. It was, unfortunately, met with harsh criticism. Fortunately, she was invited to participate in a Netflix Strong Black Lead reenactment of Art Kane’s landmark shot “A Great Day in Harlem” the next year.
Capri started her education at Hillcrest Elementary School in Maryland’s Catonsville neighborhood. She excelled as an individual and was also an active member of the school’s groups, particularly the Technology and Cheerleading clubs. Capri later transferred to Armstrong State University in Savanna, Georgia. She majored in Biology but only stayed for her junior year, opting to take advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work in the film industry.
