Ashleigh Banfield Biography
Ashleigh Banfield is a Canadian-American journalist and former television anchor at the HLN TV network. Currently, she works at the Live PD show on A&E backup as a backup host and also hosts Banfield.
Previously, she worked as a host of shows like ‘Legal View with Ashleigh Banfield’ and ‘Early Start’ on CNN. She has also served as a freelance associate producer for World News Tonight at ABC network. In addition, she has also been a host of MSNBC Investigates.
Ashleigh started her television career in 1988 at CJBN-TV in Kenora, Ontario, and at CKY-TV in Winnipeg later that year. Between 1989 and 1992, Banfield anchored the weekend news for CFRN-TV in Edmonton. In addition, Ashleigh worked at CICT-TV in Calgary, as a producer from 1992 to 1993 and as an evening news anchor and business correspondent from 1993 to 1995. In 1994, she won two Iris Awards in the categories of Best News Documentary and Best of Festival.
While still in Canada, Ashleigh worked as a freelance associate producer for ABC’s World News Tonight during her tenure at CICT-TV. She further covered the 1991 Bush/Gorbachev Summit in Russia and the April 1993 Clinton/Yeltsin Summit in Vancouver.

In early 2000, Ashfield relocated to the United States of America after she was hired by national cable network MSNBC after having won an Emmy for her reporting at Dallas, TX broadcast station KDFW-TV. Moreover, she hosted MSNBC Investigates, worked at NBC News, and became a host of HomePage along with Gina Gaston and Mika Brzezinski.
In 2005, Ashleigh joined CourtTV as the co-host of the trial coverage show Banfield & Ford: Courtside weekdays from 1 to 3 PM ET with Jack Ford. Starting June 1, 2009, Banfield took over as host of the truTV series Open Court weekdays from 9 to 11 a.m. ET.
Ashleigh joined CNN in January 2012 as co-anchor with Zoraida Sambolin of the network’s morning show, Early Start. On August 13, 2012, she moved to the 11 a.m. edition of CNN Newsroom in New York each weekday, replacing Kyra Phillips as the anchor.
Ashleigh later resumed hosting programs on courtTV, including the true-crime documentary series Judgement with Ashleigh Banfield in 2020. The program recaps past high-profile trials and provides updates on the individuals involved. In January 2021, Ashleigh was announced as the host to replace the third hour of NewsNation Prime on NewsNation (American TV channel). The interview program, titled Banfield, is intended to interview newsmakers from all walks of life in a style said to be similar to Larry King Live.
