Norah Jones also known as Geethali Norah Jones Shankar is an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. She is famous for her solo music albums such as f Come Away with Me, for which she received five Grammy Awards, including the Album of the Year. Furthermore, Jones is also known for other albums such as Feels Like Home, Not Too Late, The Fall, Day Breaks, and Pick Me Up Off the Floor. Throughout her career, she has earned many accolades such as nine Grammy Awards and Best New Artist.
Norah was born and raised in New York City, United States. He completed her primary education at Colleyville Middle School and then later attended Grapevine High School. Shortly after, she transferred to Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, where there she sang in the school choir, participated in the band, and played the alto saxophone. She also won the DownBeat Student Music Awards for Best Jazz Vocalist twice and Best Original Composition. After high school, Jone enrolled at North Texas University, where she majored in jazz piano and sang with the UNT Jazz Singers.
During her time there, she meets Jesse Harris who later becomes a co-founder of the band. Moreover, she was also on a cross-country road trip with friend and future Little Willies member, Richard Julian, and stopped to see the band play. In 1999, Jones left Texas for New York City, and less than a year later, she started a band with Harris which prove to be the starting gun to her career. In 2002, she worked together with The Little Willies band and released her first album titled Come Away with Me. The album was a fusion of jazz with country, blues, folk, and pop and earned her five Grammy Awards, including the Album of the Year and Best New Artist.

Following her success, Norah released her second album, Feels Like Home, which reached No.1 on the Billboard album chart. Afterward, she went for a little promotional touring and a few public appearances, before later releasing her third album called Not Too Late, in 2007. That same year, she also appeared in the film Wong Kar-Wai’s My Blueberry Nights which premiered at the Cannes film festival. A year later, she released her fourth studio album, The Fall, which peaked at t No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in 2009.
Later after, Norah appeared in various TV shows such as Dancing with the Stars, Good Morning America, and Late Show with David Letterman, where she performed. Moreover, she was a judge for the 5th annual Independent Music Awards, supporting independent artists’ careers. In 2012, Jone released her fifth album, Little Broken Hearts. A few days later she began her fifth world tour in Paris, Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia. Four years later, she went on to release her sixth studio album, Day Breaks, which included nine new songs.
Later, Norah also appeared in “30 Songs/30 Days” to support Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide. Furthermore, she also collaborated with famous artists such as Anoushka Shankar, Family Guy, Ray Charles, and Ryan Adams among others. In 2020, Jones released her seventh studio album, Pick Me Up Off the Floor, which reached No.87 on the US Billboard 200.
That same year, she was also featured in the song “Angel Eyes” from her covers album The Women Who Raised Me. This year, Norah was featured on rapper Logic’s song “Paradise II” from his first independent studio album College Park. Recently, Norah sold more than 50 million records worldwide.
