Thebe Neruda Kgositsile also known as Earl Sweatshirt, is an American rapper, songwriter, record producer, and singer. He rose to fame in 2010 after the release of his mixtape, Earl, followed by his second album Doris. Moreover, his most renowned tracks are ‘Kitchen Cutlery’ and ‘Mixtape.’ Let’s celebrate his birthday! Apart from this, Neruda has also collaborated with many artists such as MF Doom, Jay Z, J Dilla, Madlib, RZA, Lupe Fiasco, and Clipse. Most recently, Neruda released his fourth album called Sick.
Kgositsile was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, United States. He finished his study at UCLA Lab School in Los Angeles before heading to New Roads Middle School & High School in Santa Monica for his higher education. Furthermore, he also went aboard to further his study in Samoa for a year and a half. He started showing interest in rapping in the seventh grade under the name Sly Tendencies. His career began in 2009, after being discovered by, Tyler, The Creator and later he changed his name to Earl Sweatshirt.
Afterward, he joined Tyler’s rap group Odd Future, and together made a name for themselves by appearing in various magazines such as The Fader, Spin, and Billboard. Earl become recognized in 2010 when he released his mixtape called Earl which become a huge success. For his work on the album, it received the title of the 24th-best album of 2010 from Complex. After that, he went abroad to further his study before later returning back with a major hit song”the full thing” which went viral earning him 50,000 followers on Twitter.

Later, he was featured on the song “Oldie” from Odd Future’s debut album The OF Tape Vol. 2. In 2012, he appeared along with his band at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. After that, Casey Veggies released a mixtape titled Customized Greatly 3 which featured Earl Sweatshirt, Tyler the Creator, Domo Genesis, and Hodgy Beats titled “PNCINTLOFWGKTA.”That same year, Sweatshirt also appeared on the track “Super Rich Kids” from Frank Ocean’s debut album, channel ORANGE.
Other than this, Earl was also featured in other musical albums and songs like No Idols, Between Friends, MellowHype, and “Chum. Besides that, he also released his studio album titled Doris followed by a music video for “Chum” which was posted on YouTube. The album featured many artists including RZA, Casey Veggies, Odd Future members Domo Genesis, Frank Ocean, Tyler, the Creator, and Mac Miller. Following his success, he went on to release his second album, I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside, followed by his third, Some Rap Songs, released in 2018.
The album arrived following the death of his father, South African poet, and activist Keorapetse Kgositsile. Some of his famous singles in the album are “Nowhere2go” and “The Mint”. A few months later, Nebuda appeared in a song with Zelooperz titled “Easter Sunday”. Later, he released his EP Feet of Clay, which included two bonus tracks. After that, he took a break before later returning with a music video for the single “2010”, the first commercial released. In 2021, Kgositsile went on to announce his fourth studio album, Sick, which was released the following year in January. That same year, he was featured in the third and final single, the Black Noi$e-produced “Titanic”. In addition to that, Sweatshirt also appeared in the album featuring famous artists including, ZelooperZ, rap group Armand Hammer, Black Noi$e, Samiyam, and The Alchemist.
