Alan Krashesky Biography
Alan Krashesky is an American journalist, news anchor, and reporter who currently anchors ABC 7 Chicago News at 5 pm, 6 pm, and 10 pm. He is a seasoned reporter, having worked for over 36 years in the field.
Born in Philadelphia, Alan attended the Milton Hershey School, a residential school for children with social and financial needs. In 2015, he was named Milton Hershey Alumni of the Year after successfully passing his exams. Krashesky then joined Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York. Later on, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Communications Management in 1981.
The veteran news anchor and reporter co-anchors three of ABC 7’s top-notch weekday newscasts: The 5 PM newscasts and the 6 PM newscasts, positions he has held since March 1998. Starting May 1, 2016, he also became a co-anchor of the station’s top-rated 10 p.m. newscast alongside Cheryl Burton.
Alan is famous and much respected for both his news anchoring and news reporting expertise. Previously, he co-anchored ABC 7’s 4 p.m. weekday newscasts between 2005 and 2016, the 5 p.m. weekday newscasts (1994-98), and its morning newscasts (1989–94). Notably, Alan was the first anchor of ABC 7’s weekday morning news program. Since joining the station as a general assignment reporter in 1982, each newscast he has anchored has consistently been rated No. 1 in the Chicago market.

He is considered one of the top reporters in the market to cover major domestic and international stories and has been lauded in particular, for his coverage of the Roman Catholic Church. Chicago natives will recall his in-depth coverage of the election of Pope Francis as well as the historic resignation of Pope Benedict XVI. He further covered the death of Pope John Paul II and the election of Pope Benedict XVI in 2005, as well as the beatification of Pope John Paul II in 2011.
His local reporting has earned him a number of Chicago Midwest Emmy Awards. Earlier in his career, Alan worked as a news reporter and weathercaster for KTBC-TV in Austin, TX (1982). Before joining KTBC, he was a news reporter, weathercaster, and weekend sports anchor at WBNG-TV in Binghamton, NY (1981). Alan had his first broadcasting experience in college when he was a news anchor on WICB-FM radio in Ithaca, N.Y. between 1979 and 1981.
