Biography
Alex Cabrero is an American journalist who presently works as a News reporter for KSL in Salt Lake City. Cabrero has been a KSL reporter since 2004. He has covered several high-profile Utah stories throughout his time in Salt Lake City, including the Crandall Canyon mine disaster, the Trolley Square shootings, and the Susan Powell missing person case.
He’s also covered national and international issues with Utah ties for KSL, including Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast, the terrible California wildfires, and the earthquake tragedies in Haiti and Nepal.
Alex has covered the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, the 2012 Olympics in London, the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Cabrero has won seven Emmy Awards, including one for national reporting during a standoff in Tennessee. In 2016, he was selected as the finest local TV news reporter in the Rocky Mountain Region, earning him an Emmy. Alex has received more than 50 accolades from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Utah Broadcasters Association.
Prior to coming to Utah, Cabrero covered the September 11th terrorist attacks, training for the 101st Airborne’s first wave of soldiers heading to Afghanistan, and the burial of country music legend Johnny Cash.
Before joining KSL, Alex worked for WTVF in Nashville, WRCB in Chattanooga, KPVI in Pocatello/Idaho Falls, Idaho, News 55 in Twin Falls, Idaho, and Cable 6 TV in Middletown, New York.

Cabrero is from the town of Rock Hill, New York. He received an Associate’s Degree in Communications from Orange County Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Production from New Paltz State University.
Cabrero was an Eagle Scout, a collegiate baseball player, and a Rock Hill Fire Department volunteer firefighter/rescue SCUBA diver. He enjoys going to National and State Parks, exploring Utah’s rural locations, and playing baseball for the Utah Rockies of the Utah Men’s Adult Baseball League.
