Andrea Mitchell is a renowned American television journalist, anchor, and commentator for NBC News based in Washington, D.C. She is the NBC News Chief of Foreign Affairs and also the Senior Washington Correspondent.
Andrea Mitchell Education
She attended New Rochelle High School. After graduating from high school, Andrea joined the University of Pennsylvania to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature. Her university graduation was in the year 1967.
While in college, Andrea worked as the news director of the student radio station WXPN. Even after graduation, she stayed around Philadelphia and was soon hired as a reporter at KYW radio. Andrea soon rose to prominence as the station’s City Hall correspondent while reporting for KYW-TV, a sister station.

In 1976, Mitchell moved to WTOP (now WUSA), a CBS station in Washington, D.C. Mitchell joined NBC’s network news two years later as a general correspondent. Mitchell began working for NBC News in late July 1978.
In 1979, she joined NBC News as an energy correspondent, covering the late-1970s energy crisis as well as the Three Mile Island nuclear disaster. Mitchell was a White House correspondent from 1981 to 1988 when he was promoted to chief congressional correspondent.
Since November 1994, she has served as NBC News Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent. She formerly worked for NBC News as a White House correspondent (1993–1994) and a Congressional correspondent (1988–1992).
Mitchell chronicled her career as a journalist in a book titled Talking Back to Presidents, Dictators, and Assorted Scoundrels, which she released in 2005.
Since 2008, Mitchell has hosted a program on NBC’s news and commentary channel, MSNBC, titled Andrea Mitchell Reports. It broadcasts on weekdays at noon ET.
Andrea reported on the 2008 presidential election campaign for NBC News Broadcasts in the above roles. This was in the NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, MSNBC, and Today.
She has her self-titled show, Andrea Mitchell Reports, airing from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. ET weekdays on MSNBC. She has also featured and guest-hosted Meet the Press. Other shows that she has guest-starred in include; Hardball with Chris Matthews and The Rachel Maddow Show.
In 2019, she earned a Lifetime Achievement Emmy for her successful career in journalism.
