Ashley Walters Biography
Ashley Walters (also known as Asher D) is a British actor and rapper known for playing Dushane Hill in Top Boy, Ricky in Bullet Boy (2004), and Antwan in Get Rich or Die Tryin’ (2005). He has also appeared in shows like Grange Hill, The Bill, Holby City, Doctor Who, Silent Witness, and Cuffs.
Born in Peckham, South-east London, he attended St George CE Primary School from the age of four. He then attended Pimlico Academy before undertaking classes at the Sylvia Young Theatre School. After an argument with a traffic warden in July 2001, he was found with a loaded Brocock air pistol modified to fire live ammunition.
Walters was then arrested and jailed for 18 months, in a young offenders’ institute. As a musician, he joined the group So Solid Crew. After the group spit, he recorded In Memory of the Street Fighter, featuring the single “Andrea” in 2006. In addition, he signed a recording contract with SK Records, and his single “How You Like Me Now” was released on July 29, 2012.
As an actor, he appeared on television as Omar in The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles when he was 14. In 2006, Walters played the role of Wolf in Stormbreaker and Danny in Life and Lyrics. After his career was on track he landed many more roles in great films and television series.
In 2017, he received the British Urban Film Festival honorary award from Lisa Maffia & Sheila Nortley. This was at the BT Tower in London for 25 Outstanding contributions to film and television. He reprised his role in 2019 as Dushane Hill in Top Boy again following its revival on the streaming service Netflix.
