Ben Caplan( Musician) Biography
Ben Caplan is a Canadian folk musician who is known for his album song like In the Time of the Great Remembering, Birds With Broken Wings, and, Old Stock. He is a folklore singer and songwriter who performs a variety of instruments including guitar, banjo, piano, and melodica during his live performances. He is a part of the band The Casual Smokers. Caplan is a native of Hamilton, Ontario, and started playing guitar at the age of 13. Moreover, he has been nominated for multiple East Coast Music Awards.
Ben completed his high school education at a local school in his hometown and later after attended the University of King’s College. His journey began at the age of 19 as an independent singer-songwriter. He also took part in the Artist Entrepreneur program through Canada’s Music Incubator. In 2011, he released his first t full-length studio album called In the Time of the Great Remembering.
Moreover, after the release of his first album, Caplan was nominated for Male Artist Recording of the Year for his album. Thereafter, he began touring across Canada and performed some concerts in Europe.In the following years, he together with his band The Casual Smokers toured the east coast of Canada and performed in places like Texas, Gala, and Austin. For his performance that year, he won the Root Recording of the Years Award.

From March 30 to April 1, 2013, Caplan performed live at the Byron Bay Bluesfest. Later after, he performed in various shows such as The Hop Farm Festival (UK), and Roots In The Park Music Festival (Netherlands) among other places. For his performance, he become recognized in countries like Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Norway, the UK, and Canada. From the end of 2013 to January 2014, Ben participated in the Woodford Folk Festival and Sydney Festival. In addition to that, he also starred in a series show in Australia.
Furthermore, he has also toured in the United States as well as in European. While in Europe Caplan received positive feedback from the audience such as The Guardian UK. Throughout his career, Ben has earned many awards including the Rising Star Recording of the Year in 2013. He was nominated for Folk Recording of the Year as well as nominated for Album of the Year in 2016. As of 2021, he released his fourth album titled Recollection.
