Benedict Wong Biography
Benedict Wong is a British actor famous for his roles as Kublai Khan in Marco Polo, Bruce Ng in The Martian, and Wong in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Doctor Strange (2016). He happens to also be a football fan and a Manchester United FC supporter.
Born in Eccles, Great Manchester, he attended and graduated from Salford City College. Wong then took a two-year performing arts course at Salford City College. His first role was in a 1993 BBC Radio play Kai Mei Sauce. He also appeared as Errol in the situation comedy 15 Storeys High.
In 2007, he starred in Grow Your Own and appeared in episode 4 of Season 4 of TheITCrowd. In 2013, he was cast in the lead role #aww: The Arrest of Ai Weiwei. He also joined the cast of the play Chimerica as Zhang Lin. In the same year, he played the role of Lau in The Wrong Mans.
In 2016, he co-starred as Wong in Doctor Strange and later reprised the role in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Shang-CChi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), Spiderman-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
Wong performed the voice of the Skeksis general skekVar in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (2019). In 2020, he appeared as Necromancer in an episode of What We Do in the Shadows. In 2021, he voiced Tong in Raya and the Last Dragon. Recently in 2022, he partnered with Ai Weiwei, serving as the narrator for Ai’s memory 1000 Years of Joy and Sorrows.
