Bill Keller is a renowned American journalist who is famous for his work at The New York Times Paper in New York City as a columnist. Keller joined The New York Times Paper in 1984 and began the paper’s executive editor from July 2003 until September 2011 when he stepped down to be a full-time writer.

Moreover, Bill is the founding editor-in-chief of The Marshall Project, an independent non-profit newsroom covering crime and punishment in America. He also worked in the Times Moscow bureau from 1986 to 1991, where he was the bureau chief during the final years of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union. For his reporting in 1988, Keller won a Pulitzer Prize.

Bill attended the Roman Catholic Schools St. Matthews and Junípero Serra High School in San Mateo, California. In 1970, he graduated from Pomona College where he began his journalistic career as a reporter for a campus newspaper known as The Collegian. Keller later completed the Advanced Management Program at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in July 2000.

Starting July 1970 to March 1979, Bill worked as a reporter in Portland with The Oregonian. He later followed with his job with Congressional Quarterly Weekly Report and the Dallas Times Herald.

Keller joined The New York Times in April 1984 as a domestic correspondent based in the Washington bureau. He then went on to serve as the Times correspondent in Moscow from December 1986 to October 1991, his last three years as the newspaper’s bureau chief.

The Marshal Project is a nonprofit nonpartisan online journalism organization covering criminal justice in the United States. The project was the original idea of the former hedge fund manager, filmmaker, and journalist Neil Barsky, who announced it in his byline in an unrelated New York Times article in November 2013.
