Cara Buono Biography
Cara Buono is a renowned American actress, screenwriter, and director best known for her roles as Dr. Faye Miller in the fourth season of the AMC drama series Mad Men; Kelli Moltisanti in the sixth season of The Sopranos; and Linda Salvo in the 2006 comedy Arties Lange’s Beer League. In addition, Cara appeared in films including Hulk (2003) and Let Me In (2010) and Karen Wheeler in the horror sci-fi Netflix series Stranger Things (2016 – present).
Born and raised in The Bronx New York City, Cara attended one of the best performing arts schools in New York City, the ‘Fiorello H LaGuardia High School.’ She then graduated from ‘Columbia University,’ with a double major in English literature and political science.
Buono first experienced the magic theatre for the first time at age 12, when she joined Harvey Fierstein’s 1984 ‘Off-Broadway’ play ‘Spook House’ as an understudy. In 1989, she was part of the ‘Broadway’ play ‘The Tenth Man,’ standing by for the character of ‘Evelyn Foreman.’
Theatre Career
Her theatre work soon transitioned into the world of cinemas and television. In 1989, she got her first screen role, on ‘NBC’s drama series ‘Dream Street.’ She further got a ‘Daytime Emmy Award’ nomination for her performance in an episode of the ‘CBS Schoolbreak Special’ titled ‘Abby, My Love.’
Much of Cara’s work has been in Indie films such as Chutney Popcorn (1999), Happy Accidents (2000), Next Stop Wonderland (1998), and Two Ninas (1999), which she co-produced. In 1999, Cara played a small role as a young Gerry Cummins in the TV movie, Deep in My Heart (1999).
Buono starred in the final season of the NBC drama Third Watch (1999) as paramedic Grace Foster, and Ang Lee’s adaptation of Marvel Comics’ Hulk in 2003 as the mother of the title character’s alter ego, Bruce Banner.
Cara has received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series in 2011.
