Carlos Diaz is an Emmy Award-winning morning News Anchor currently working as an anchor of 13Sunrise since 2020. He joined the WTHR news team in August 2016 as a Sunrise reporter. Diaz has spent over 30 years in news, sports, and entertainment.
He is a proud graduate of Indiana University, and he has not forgotten his resident roots, hosting Indianapolis’ “Heartland Film Festival,” the “Indiana Children’s Wish Fund” and a variety of Indy 500 events every year.
Diaz joined the WTHR news team in August 2016, working as a Sunrise reporter but later named anchor of 13Sunrise in 2020. A native of Indiana, Carlos is thrilled to be back home again. His career spans over 20 years in news, sports, and entertainment working in all aspects of media including television, radio, print, and the Internet.
Carlos started his television career as a sports anchor and reporter for WSVN-TV in Miami, Florida. Furthermore, he started his broadcast career as a radio sports director at WZPL-FM in Indianapolis in 1992. Moreover, In 1996, Diaz won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for his coverage of the Indianapolis Colts while working as a reporter for WNDE-AM.
Diaz started his carer on National television as a reporter for ESPN’s “SportsCenter” back in 1997, interviewing the sport’s elite including Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Peyton Manning. Later on, he served as an anchor for the National Basketball Association’s television network, NBA TV while also featuring as a writer for NBA.com. Afterward, Carlos relocated from the Big Apple to Hollywood to serve as a correspondent for the entertainment news magazine “Extra,” a position he held for eight years. In Los Angeles, Diaz also hosted the syndicated show “Celebrity Justice.” At the same time, he hosted “The Daily Diaz,” a nationally syndicated radio report that features the latest updates on entertainment, news, and sports, a program he hosts to date.
Later on, Carlos tried his career in the deep South, relocating from Hollywood to Atlanta to serve as a sports anchor on HLN’s “Morning Express with Robin Meade.” In addition to his sports anchor roles on the popular morning show, Diaz contributed to and served as a guest host on multiple shows across HLN and CNN. He joined the cable news network in 2010. In 2015, Carlos was honored through induction into the Nevada Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
