Carrie Bickmore Biography
Carrie Bickmore OAM is an Australian talk show and current affairs Gold Logie award-winning television and radio presenter. Previously, she worked as a presenter for The Project from 2009 to 2022.
Bickmore was born in Adelaide, South Australia, but moved to Perth, Western Australia, with her family at an early age. She attended the Anglican girls’ school Perth College and then later attended the Curtin University of Technology where she studied journalism. She graduated in 2000 and moved to Melbourne, Victoria, in 2001 to pursue a career in media.
Carrie began her career as a newsreader on Perth’s 92.9FM as a last-minute replacement for a sick coworker. Her father Brian was a radio announcer at the time and eventually held executive positions within the Austereo network. After some time, she was promoted to a regular newsreader for the station. In 2001, Bickmore became the afternoon newsreader for radio station Nova 100 in Melbourne.
The following year, she became the co-host of the drive show with Andy Ross. Prior to that, she also participated in the Australian Commercial Radio Awards’ Best News Presenter category. On behalf of Nova 100, Bickmore, Rebecca Leahy, and Michael Colling accepted the prize for Best Community Service Project – Metro. Moreover, she served as the breakfast newsreader on Hughesy & Kate on Nova 100.
Later on, in August 2009, she left Nova 100 to focus on The 7 pm Project. Bickmore and Charlie Pickering appeared on the three-week-long, nationally broadcast radio program The Breakfast Project in October 2012. The show won over both reviewers and viewers, and it gave rise to suspicions that Bickmore and Pickering started appearing regularly on Nova 100 Melbourne. In 2013, she returned to Nova 100 to read the news one last time and to say farewell to the long-standing breakfast radio duo Hughesy and Kate.
Carrie made her first appearance on television in Rove Live, where she presented the “Carrie @ the News Desk” segment for each episode. She joined The Project in 2009 where she worked as a presenter. The show aired on the weeknights on Network Ten and has further expanded her profile as a television presenter. In addition, Bickmore won the 2010 Logie Award for Best New Female Talent for her work on Rove and The Project. Prior, she was nominated for a Gold Logie in 2012, 2013, and 2014. In the following year, Carrie was honored to receive the Silver Logie for Best Presenter.
Aside from that, Carrie is the Australian ambassador for UNICEF and The RMH Neuroscience Foundation. One of the leading research centers investigating the causes, complications, treatment, and prevention of brain diseases. She started Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer in November 2015 with the intention of generating $4,200,000 initially for brain cancer research. Two months later, she fulfilled her goal. In 2022, Bickmore declared that she will leave The Project in order to spend more time with her family.
