CeCe Winans Biography
CeCe Winans (Priscilla Marie Winans Love) is an American gospel singer. She has been awarded 12 Grammy Awards and 23 GMA Dove Awards, along with many other awards. Winans has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has 5 million record sales certified by the RIAA and another 5 million estimated in total sales. Moreover, Billboard magazine lists eight of her solo albums as top Christian music sellers and six albums as a duo with her older brother, BeBe Winans.
Winans first came to Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1981 as a singer on the Christian telecast, The PTL Club. During the PTL, CeCe and her brother, BeBe, became a duo. Moreover, in 1984, BeBe and CeCe released their first album, Lord of Us Up, for PTL records. In 1984, CeCe left PTL, and BeBe left in 1985. In addition, they released their second album in 1987: BeBe & CeCe Winans.
Moreover, in 1995, CeCe began her solo career with the album Alone in His Presence. The album sold more than a million copies and earned her a Grammy Award, two Dove Awards, and the Female Vocalist of the Year. CeCe took a two-year break from releasing albums and returned in 2003 with Throne Room. Winans’ seventh album, Purified, was released in 2005. Her nephew Mario Winans was one of the four producers. Her son Alvin III co-wrote several songs, and her daughters Angie and Debbie performed.
Winans’ collection of Top Ten R&B radio hits includes “Count On Me,” her duet with Whitney Houston. The single was certified gold in the US and reached No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 4 on the Adult Contemporary chart, and also No. 8 on the Billboard R&B Singles Chart. On April 8, 2008, she released her eighth album, “Thy Kingdom Come.” Moreover, on October 6, 2009, BeBe and CeCe released a reunion album called “Still.”
On December 23, 2010, Winans, along with BeBe and Mary Mary, performed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. From 2012 to 2014, she was a judge on BET’s gospel singing competition, Sunday Best, along with BeBe.
In addition, CeCe is an author. She has authored three books: On A Positive Note, a memoir released August 1, 2000; Throne Room: Ushered Into the Presence of God, a devotional released January 1, 2004, co-authored with Claire Cloninger; and Always Sisters: Becoming the Princess You Were Created to Be, released July 17, 2007, co-written with Claudia Mair Burney.
