Clint Bowyer Biography

Clint Bowyer is an American former professional stock car racing driver who has been covering the NASCAR Cup Series for Fox Sports as an analyst since 2021, alongside Jeff Gordon and Mike Joy.

Bowyer’s final season of the NASCAR competition in 2020 saw him increase his FOX NASCAR broadcasting role as an analyst for various NASCAR XFINITY SERIES and NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES races. In addition to the NASCAR iRACING PRO INVITATIONAL SERIES’ inaugural season on Fox Sports.

After several years as a driver analyst for FOX NASCAR’s annual Drivers Only NASCAR XFINITY SERIES race telecasts and select Xfinity events, he increased his TV role. In 2017, alongside Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano, Bowyer was part of the original Drivers Only broadcast crew.

Clint had a great NASCAR career with some of the sport’s most famous teams, winning 10 NASCAR CUP SERIES races, the 2008 NASCAR XFINITY SERIES championship, eight Xfinity wins, and three NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES triumphs before moving to the commentary booth. Clint debuted in NASCAR in 2004 with Richar Childress Racing, where he competed in 17 NASCAR XFINITY SERIES races before returning for a full season in 2005 and 2006. Childress first caught his attention in a 2003 ARCA MENARDS Series event at Nashville Superspeedway, where he led 47 laps and finished runner-up. Childress, watching the race from home, offered Clint a ride soon thereafter. The driver left his Kansas car dealership job for North Carolina and the NASCAR XFINITY Series.

Bowyer was also named a full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver in 2006. This was after winning three Xfinity races and finishing second and third in points in 2005 and 2006. On his way to third place in the point standings, he won his maiden Cup Series race in September 2007 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. At RCCR, he continued to participate in both series at the same time and won the NASCAR XFINITY SERIES title in 2008. From 2004 to 2001, Clint won eight Xfinity Series races and five NASCAR Cup Series races at RCR.

Bowyer joined Michael Waltrip Racing in 2012, winning at Sonoma Raceway, Richmond Raceway, and Charlotte Motor Speedway in his debut year and finishing second in the point standings. He has ten top-five finishes in 2013 on his way to a seventh-place finish in the standings.

In 2017, he took over at Stewart Haas Racing from three-time champion Tony Stewart. Clint concluded the season in 11th place, just missing out on the NASCAR playoffs by one position. He started racing dirt motorcycles in his home state of Kansas before moving on to stock cars and motocross in 1985. He has won over 200 races and multiple titles since then. In his hometown of Emporia, he owns a car dealership where he previously worked as a lot attendant, dent specialist, and detailer.

In 2008, Clint founded the dirt late model team that won the 2014 Lucas Oil Late Model Series championship. With a donation from The 79 Fund, his charitable fund, he built the Clint Bowyer Community Building in 2012. The street where the Bowyer family’s towing business is located was renamed, Hon. ClintBowyer Boulevard in 2012.

On October 8, 2020, he revealed that he would be joining the Fox Sports broadcast booth full-time for the 2021 season, stepping away from the driver’s seat.
