David Doebler Biography
David Doebler is the President and General Manager of NBC 5 WMAQ in Chicago, which is owned by NBC. Since 2013, he has been employed by the station. He did, however, announce in June that he would be stepping down as president and general manager of NBC-owned WMAQ Channel 5 and Telemundo Chicago’s WSNS Channel 44. Both stations are Comcast-NBC Universal properties.
In an email to workers, Doebler stated that he was stepping down willingly to spend more time with his wife, Susan. He wrote, “I’m fortunate to say that I’ve had the joy of doing what I love for over four decades.” However, because my wife Susan and I have a long list of items on our bucket list, I will be retiring following the end of the May book. It’s the appropriate time for us and we could not be more excited. ”
For the previous three years, he served as Vice President of Creative Services and Sales for WNCN in Raleigh, which was originally owned by NBC. He began his career in local television, working for 11 years at WCAU, an NBC-owned station in Philadelphia, with a number of sales responsibilities.
He began his career with NBC Connecticut, an NBC-owned station, where he worked for eight years. David and his team are also in charge of the design and building of a new state-of-the-art broadcast facility that has served as a model for other local stations across the country. He formerly served as president and general manager of WVIT, an NBC-owned station in Hartford, Connecticut, for eight years. He is a native of Philadelphia and a graduate of Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. Doebler formerly worked as a manager for NBC stations in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Birmingham, Alabama.
