Diana Ross’s birth name is Diana Ernestine Earle Ross. She is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and music producer. Ross rose to fame as the leader of the Supremes, a vocal group she had started with her friends while still in teenagehood. This girls group rose to be Motown’s most successful venture and also the best performing female group in United States history.

As she was attending Cass Technical High School in Downtown Detroit, Diana started taking classes on clothing design, millinery, pattern making, and tailoring. This was out of her aspiration to become a fashion designer. Ross also attended modeling and cosmetology classes at the school. She graduated from Cass Tech in January 1962.

Diana got into singing at fifteen in a group with friends Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard, and Barbara Martin as The Primettes. However, they changed the group name to Supremes for the group to get signed with Gordy, a music producer at the time.

After making historic hits like “Come See About Me” and “You Can’t Hurry Love”, Diana left the Supremes group for a solo career in 1969. At this time, she rose to number one with hits like “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “Love Hangover.” Ross featured in films such as Mahogany and Lady Sings the Blues where she had an Oscar nomination for the latter.

When she was two months pregnant with Rhonda, she married music executive Robert Ellis Silberstein, who raised Rhonda as his own daughter. She even told Rhonda that Gordy was her biological father when she was 13 years old.

She also has two daughters with Silberstein: Tracee Joy, born in 1972, and Chudney Lane Silbersteinborn in 1975. However, her relationship with Silberstein ended in 1977. Thereafter, she dated Kiss singer Gene Simmons, from 1980 to 1983, but they quit after she thought he had resumed his relationship with Cher.
