Diego Gutierrez is an American professional soccer player who plays as a forward for the Major League Soccer club Portland Timbers. He was titled First Team All-Summit League in 2018. Previously, Gutierrez played for Creighton University during his senior year and was named Big East Offensive Player of the Year. Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, United States.
He completed high school at Ralston High School, where he finished as a leading goalscorer with 112 goals as well as tallying 43 assists. He also holds First-team All-Nebraska honors and was a four-time All-State selection. In addition, Gutierrez also played club soccer with the Elite Academy. He has also competed at the University of Nebraska Omaha to play college soccer. From 2017 to 2019, he appeared in Mavericks where he scored 10 goals and 13 assists tallying.
During his time there, Diego was named Summit League All-Newcomer Team and Summit League All-Tournament Team in 2017. Also, in the following year, he was titled First Team All-Summit League. Two years later, he transferred to Creighton University for his senior year. While there, Gutierrez scored 15 goals in the 30 appearances he made. After that, he was named Big East Offensive Player of the Year and a two-time selection onto the All-Big East First Team.
As of 2022, Gutierrez is in a contract deal with Major League Soccer side Portland Timbers. That year, he appeared on March 12 as an 87th–minute substitute during a 1–0 win over Austin FC.
