Emily Sutton Biography
Emily Sutton is an American-certified meteorologist presently working as a morning meteorologist at KFOR-TV. She became KFOR-first TV’s first female meteorologist when she joined the 4Warn Storm Team in December 2009. Sutton forecasts produce, and anchors weather segments for NewsChannel 4 at 4 a.m., 5 a.m., and 6 a.m., as well as Freedom 43 TV’s Rise and Shine from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Emily previously worked as a meteorologist and reporter for WCYB. She forecasted, produced, and hosted weather segments for entire weekend newscasts, radio, and the internet. Emily also served as a stand-in for the chief meteorologist, alerting viewers to breaking severe weather news. She also provided twice-weekly news reports.
Emily was a Rolling Meadows High School student. She later enrolled at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Atmospheric Science.
In 2009, Sutton joined the 4Warn team. She went on the air a few weeks before Oklahoma City’s largest snowstorm, the Christmas Eve Blizzard, and has been living in Oklahoma ever since. She was promoted to weekday mornings in 2013. The American Meteorological Society has certified her as a broadcast meteorologist, and she has received the National Weather Association Seal. Emily is Oklahoma’s only meteorologist who owns both seals.

She has continued to cover large storms directly for KFOR-TV since making a name for herself while storm chasing during the record May 2013 tornado outbreaks. Her storm-chasing video was featured on CNN, MSNBC, and The Weather Channel, gaining her national attention. In August 2013, Sam Anderson wrote a piece for “The New York Times Magazine” and her blog “The 6th Floor” about her storm-chasing adventures. She was featured in a storm-chasing article in the magazine “Popular Mechanics.” The team from KFOR received a national Emmy for their coverage of the Moore tornado on May 20, 2013.
Emily’s interest in weather began at a young age, but she didn’t recognize it until she joined the University of Missouri’s Storm Chase Team in 2004, when she witnessed her first tornado. Sutton began her career in television in 2007 at KMIZ-TV in Columbia, Missouri, before going to WCYB-TV in Bristol, Tennessee.
Aside from the weather, she enjoys singing and has performed in front of thousands at events such as the famous NASCAR track in Tennessee, the Oklahoma City Barons hockey team, and the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team. She enjoys traveling, dancing, cooking, and participating in charity triathlons in her spare time.
