Thorp was born and brought up by a working-class family living in a small suburban neighborhood situated in West Virginia, United States. In 2006, Thorp won the Best Reporter in West Virginia award while he was at WWVU Radio. In 2007, Thorp left WWVU and REturned to NBC News as a desk assistant and producer. Eventually, his work ethic and hard-working spit earned his current position as an NBC news reporter and Producer.
