Frank Vogel Biography
Frank Vogel is an American professional basketball coach who is currently the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association. Previously, he worked as the head coach for the Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic.
As an assistant coach, Vogel worked for the Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Boson Celtics. Recently, he coached the Lakers to their 17th championship and also it’s first over the Miami Heat in the 2020 NBA Finals.
Vogel’s first television appearance was when he was in eighth grade. He featured in an episode of Late Night with David Letterman during the Stupid Human Tricks segment. On the show, Frank spun a basketball on a toothbrush while brushing his teeth.
After joining the University of Kentucky, Vogel was a student manager for the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team in the 1994-1995 season. The following year, Frank played for a college basketball team.
Professionally, Frank started his career with the Boston Celtics as the head video coordinator in 2001. Later on, he was promoted to assistant coach in 2004.

However, he left the team in 2004 and became the assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers for a year. In addition, Vogel worked as an advance scout for the Los Angeles Lakers from 2005 to 2006.
After the short service, he joined Indiana Pacers as an assistant coach in 2007, later becoming Pacers’ head coach on July 6, 2011. However, he left the team in 2016 to join Orlando Magic as the head coach starting May 20, 2016. Unfortunately, he was fired on April 12, 2018, after the end of the 2017-2018 season.
On May 11, 2019, it was announced that Vogel will take the lead as the Los Angeles Lakers head coach while Jason Kidd joined as an assistant. In his first season with the team, Frank led the Lakers to a 52-19 record and an NBA championship. In addition, the team had the best record in the Western Conference and the third-best record in the NBA.

Vogel attended Wildwood High School later graduating in 1991. He then joined Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania where he was a starter for the Division III basketball team.
In 1994, Frank transferred to the University of Kentucky where he was the student manager for the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team. He graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.
