Howard Eskin Biography
Howard Eskin is an American sports anchor at WTXF-TV Fox 29 based in Philadelphia, a sports radio personality for WIP-FM 94.1/WTEL AM 610, and the father of Brett Spike Eskin, VP of Programming at WFAN New York.
Eskin not only hosted the station’s initial sports talk show on 610 WIP in 1986, but he was also the first show on the air when the station moved to 94.1FM in 2011. He probably has more than any other sports talker in the country, having broadcast approximately 7,000 broadcasts on WIP. In addition to co-hosting the station’s Eagles pre-game shows and acting as a sideline reporter for the Philadelphia Eagles radio broadcasts, Eskin also anchors the station’s top-rated Saturday morning discussion show and appears regularly on-air throughout the week. The crowning experience of Eskin’s illustrious sports broadcasting career was being on the air from the field during the Eagles’ historic 2018 Super Bowl victory.
Eskin, who has broken more sports stories than any other broadcaster in the Philadelphia market, has been dubbed the market’s “hardest working sportscaster” by local media for his constant hustle on the job. He has excelled as a multi-media personality throughout his career, in addition to his dominant radio presence. In 1982, when he joined CBS 3 as a sportscaster, he made the switch from radio to television for the first time (KYW-TV). Eskin, true to tradition, broke a huge story less than four months into his TV career. He was claiming that Eagles owner Leonard Tose planned to sell and subsequently relocate the team. One of his KYW bosses even claims that the sportscaster is responsible for keeping the Eagles in Philadelphia. “Leonard Tose would have smuggled the Eagles out of town if Howard hadn’t stepped in when he did,” Frank Traynor claims.
In 1986, Eskin was part of the initial anchor crew for Fox29’s (WTXF-TV) Ten O’Clock News. Moreover, in 1992, he returned to KYW-TV. Moreover, in 1996, he moved to WCAU-TV, where he hosted Sports Final, the station’s Sunday night sports show. In 2012, he returned to FOX29 as a host, and he continues to do so during football season. Eskin was elected to the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. He earned the renowned March of Dimes Lifetime Achievement Award for Achievement in Radio in 2010. Eskin was honored by the Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame in 2012. In 2014, he was inducted into the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in Philadelphia.
