Iliza Shlesinger Biography
Iliza Vie Shlesinger is an American award-winning comedian, actress, television host, executive producer, and screenwriter. Recently, she released her 6th Netflix stand-up special Hot Forever, and her second book All Things Aside. Previously, Shlesinger worked as a host in her own late-night talk show called Truth & Iliza on Freeform.
Shlesinger completed high school at Greenhill School in Addison, Texas, where she studied Spanish and participated in the school’s improvisation team. Later after, she enrolled at Kansas University and then transferred to Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts where she majored in film. During her time there, she was a member of one of the campus’s comedy sketch groups, Jimmy’s Traveling All-Stars.
Soon after graduating from college, Iliza moved to Los Angeles to pursue stand-up comedy. While in Los Angeles, she becomes the most popular member of a group of standup comedians. In 2007, Shlesinger won Myspace’s So You Think You’re Funny contest and was featured as the G4 network’s Myspace Girl of the Week. In the following years, she became the first woman, and the youngest, winner of NBC’s Last Comic Standing.
Moreover, Shlesinger was twice selected by other comedians to compete in the head-to-head eliminations, in which she won. After that, she appeared in The Last Comic Standing Tour. In 2010, she released her own comedy video on her website such as Man Up and Act Like a Lady. From 2007 to 2012, Iliza hosted The Weakly News on TheStream.tv. Likewise, she also hosted a reality-based dating competition series Excused, on the syndicated American show.
Apart from that, she has also worked as a comic co-host of StarTalk Radio Show alongside Neil DeGrasse Tyson. In 2016, Shlesinger launched her own channel called Freeform which started airing in the following years. Furthermore, she has also done videos and comedy albums showcased on Netflix like War Paint( 2012), Confirmed Kills ( 2016), and her fifth stand-up which was released in 2019.
The following year, she appeared in the Netflix film Spenser Confidential and The Iliza Shlesinger Sketch Show. On top of that, Iliza also portrayed, wrote, and executive produced the romantic comedy film Good on Paper, which premiered on Netflix in 2021. Aside from that, she did her sixth stand-up comedy special Iliza Shlesinger: Hot Forever which premiered on Netflix in October 2022. Schlesinger has also published her own book entitled Girl Logic: The Genius and the Absurdity.
