Jenny Lumet Biography
Jenny Lumet is an American actress and screenwriter best known for writing the original screenplay for Jonathan Demme’s 2008 film Rachel Getting Married. She has also written and produced The Mummy (2017) and Star Trek: Discovery (2017).
Lumet was born in New York City, the youngest daughter of director, producer, and screenwriter Sidney Lumet and Gail Buckley, a renowned journalist-writer. In 1984, she graduated from Dalton School. At the age of 17, Jenny worked as a coat-check girl at a restaurant called ‘Indochine.’
Jenny started her career as a voice-over artist in “stage 4” of the 1975 independent animated film ‘Everybody Rides the Carousel,’ depicting the various stages of life. Later, she had a brief role in the 1982 black comedy/mystery film ‘Deathtrap,’ adapted from Ira Levin’s 1978 play of the same name. Subsequently, she appeared in the 1988 drama film ‘Running on Empty,’ directed by her father.
Lumet appeared in two films directed by her father, Deathtrap and Running on Empty, before playing the role of Nancy Bosch in his 1990 film Q&A.
