Jessica Henwick Biography
Jessica Henwick is an English actress, writer, and producer who is well known for her roles as Nymeria Sand in Game of Thrones, X-wing pilot Jessika Pava in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Colleen Wing in Iron Fist, and Bugs in The Matrix Resurrections (2021).
Born in Surrey, England, she trained briefly at Redroofs Theatre School and the National Youth Theatre. She was the first actress of East Asian descent to play a lead role in a British television series after appearing in the 2009 BBC show Spirit Warriors. Her role as Bo forced her to train in Wushu with martial arts choreographer Jude Poyer.
In early 2013, she made her professional theatre debut in the international premiere of Running on the Cracks, based on the book by Julia Donaldson. Later that same year, she was cast as Jane Jeong Trenka in Obsession: Dark Desires. In 2015, she joined Game of Thrones in season 5 as Nymeria Sand. Recently, she was in two of the most highly viewed films of all time, The Gray Man and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery both in 2022.
Besides her acting acclaim, she is also a certified writer. In 2020, it was announced that Amazon had picked up Nancy Wu’s Done It, a young adult series that Jessica co-wrote. She has previously written and produced several short films, such as Baliko, and The Heart of the Forest, among others. In 2022, she wrote an episode of the animated series Moley.
