Joe Birch is an American journalist currently working as a news anchor for Gray Television and WMC-TV Raycon Media in Memphis, Tennessee. He joined both stations in 1978. At WMC-TV, he anchors the station’s 5, 6, and 10 o’clock newscasts.
Joe is well-educated. He joined Christian University in 1974 and after four years, he graduated from the school in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. Joe joined Gray Television and WMC-TV immediately after graduating in 1978. He enjoys visiting with the people of the Mid-South and telling their stories on WMC, Tennessee’s very first television station.
Most notably, he gets some of his best scoops directly from the Memphians who visit a monthly Mobile Food Bank Pantry Downtown. As of 2022, he serves as President of the Memphis Rotary Club which was chartered in 1914. He has made helping people on the margins a priority of his Relations Society of America.
Birch has won awards and recognitions throughout his career. In December 2016, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital respected him for 15 back-to-back long periods of interest in the St. Jude Memphis Weekend. In addition, he won the 2008 St. Dwindle the Rock Award for his administration of St. Diminish Villa, the nursing home and recovery focus where he cherished dad spent the most recent eighteen months of his life.
