Jon Ponder is an American thrice-convicted bank-robber who founded the Hope of Prisoners program in Nevada after his release in 2009. The program helps former prisoners to integrate well into society.
His work was put into the national spotlight when President Donald Trump granted him a pardon during the 2020 Republican National Convention. Jon’s pardon was publicized shortly before he was scheduled to appear as a speaker at the event.
Growing up in New York City, Jon was involved with gangs at a very young age. He was first arrested for armed robbery at the age of 16. In 2004, Jon was arrested again for bank robbery in Las Vegas and sent to federal prison in Pennsylvania.

In 2009, Ponder established Hope for Prisoners to enable former convicts to reintegrate well into society. The organization works with law enforcement (including the FBI agent who arrested Ponder) and local businesses.
According to research conducted by researchers from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas between January and June 205, 64% of the ex-convicts who participated in the program found stable employment while 6% of participants were arrested again.
