Joy Behar Biography
Josephine Victoria “Joy” Behar is an American comedian, television host, actress, and writer. She co-hosts the ABC daytime talk show The View, where she is the only original panelist still regularly appearing. As an actress, Joy is known for playing the role in films like Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012), Hall Pass (2011), and Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993).
Joy was born and raised in New York City, United States. She attended Queens College in 1964 where she graduated with a Bachelor’s in sociology and later furthered her studies at Stony Brook University where she receives a Master’s in English education. From the 1960s to the early 1970s, Behar taught English on Long Island at Lindenhurst Senior High School in Lindenhurst, New York. Prior to that, She also studied acting at the HB Studio.
Behar began her career in show business as a receptionist on ABC’s “Good Morning America” and then as a producer. She was also a stand-up comedian who made appearances on ABC’s Good Morning America and The New Show, a short-lived Lorne Michaels NBC project. Her popularity prompted her to launch her own talk show on Lifetime Television, “Way Off Broadway.”Moreover, her career took a new path when she played the role of Helga Von Haupt in the hit N.B.C. sitcom “Baby Boom.” Joy also appeared in other movies like “My Life”, Woody Allen’s, and “Manhattan Murder Mystery.” Likewise, she also hosted a talk show on 77 WABC radio in New York City.

In addition, Joy made her appearances on HBO comedy specials One Night Stand and Women of the Night 2. She joined the ABC daytime talk show “The View” in 1997. Behar was one of the original panelists. In 2009, Behar and the other co-hosts, Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd, and Walters, won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show. Aside from that, Behar has also published her first book, “Joy Shtick: Or What Is the Existential Vacuum and Does It Come with Attachments?”She also started acting as a fill-in host for Eliot Spitzer’s Current TV talk show, Viewpoint with Eliot Spitzer, starting on July 2012.
Furthermore, Joy portrayed the role of Dr. Lucy in the 2011 comedy film Hall Pass. She also recurred in Woody Allen’s Amazon series, Crisis in Six Scenes. Her last show was on August 9, 2013, in which the program staged a This Is Your Life-style tribute to Behar. She returned to ABC to co-host a new show that premiered on September 2015. Prior, She appeared on the eighth season of Bravo’s Celebrity Poker Showdown and finished in fourth place, behind Robin Tunney, and Christopher Meloni. She played for the U.S. Fund for UNIC. On October 27, 2017, Behar appeared as a guest on Real Time with Bill Maher. Her most recent book titled, ‘The Great Gasbag: An A-Z Study Guide to Surviving Trump World’, was published that same year.
