Judge Karen Biography
Judge Karen is an American television personality, former court judge, and criminal defense attorney in Florida before turning to tv to preside over her own court shows. Currently, she is the judge of the TV syndicated shows Judge Karen and Judge Karen’s Court.
Talking about her education, she completed her undergraduate education at the prestigious Bowdoin College in Maine on a full scholarship. She then went on to spend summers studying at the University of Wisconsin after which she worked in the public welfare section in areas such as job training. Furthermore, she graduated from the Levin School of Law at the University of Florida in 1987.
After graduating, she practiced law in Florida for 13 years both the state in the Office of the Public Defender. In 1998, she became a Traffic Magistrate hearing non-criminal traffic cases. Later in 2000, she ran for judgeship and won overthrowing a longtime incumbent and becoming the second black woman to serve on the bench in Miami-Dade County.
In April 2008, she stepped down in order to take her passion for the law and her desire to help others into homes across America as the host of her new series, ‘Judge Karen’. When off her duties she supports many child advocacy programs, including the Whispers Program for Girls, the GEMS Program for Girls, and the 5000 Role Models Program, among others.
