Kaity Tong Biography
Kaity Tong is a Chinese-born American broadcast journalist and reporter who has been a television news anchor in New York City since 1981. All along, she has gained fame as she steered up her career ladder.
Tong attended Bryn Mawr College where she graduated with a Bachelor of arts degree in English literature. She later joined Stanford University for a doctoral program in Chinese and Japanese literature.
Long started her career in 1976 working as a reporter for KPIX-Tv in San Francisco until 1979. She then became the co-anchor of newscasts of KCPA-TV in Sacramento, California in December 1979. In 1981, she moved to WABC-TV based in New York City and within two years, she moved up to become a co-anchor of the station’s 5 p.m and 11 p.m newscasts. At first, she co-hosted alongside Tom Snyder and later with Ernie Anastos.
In 1986, Kaity moved to the 6 p.m newscast, rotating the anchor chair with John Johnson alongside Bill Beutel after Roger Grimsby was fired. At the same time, she co-anchored the 11 p.m broadcast with Anastos until he left the station for WCBS in 1989. eventually, Tong became the sole anchor for the 11 p.m news and Beutel assumed his solo anchor role at the 6 p.m. broadcast.

In 1984, she appeared as herself, reporting on the defection of the Soviet circus performer played by Robin Williams in the feature film Moscow on the Hudson. Kaity has also been a newscaster of television shows and movies like Spider-man, City Hall, Marci X, and Night Falls on Manhattan.
Following her firing by WABC-TV in 1991, Tong was replaced by Susan Roesgen. However, in early 1992, she joined WPIX as the station’s top female anchor, and she is there up to date.
In addition, Tong became the first woman to be honored by Rotary International and also get a Star award from the New York Women’s Agenda. In addition, she earned a Distinguished Woman award from the Chinese-American Planning Council.
