Kristine Sorensen Biography

Kristine Sorensen is an American Journalist who currently works with KDKA-TV as of April 2013. She broadcasts the KDKA-TV News at noon and 5 P.M. In addition, Kristine is seen in her weekly Kidsburgh reports in collaboration with Kidsburgh.org. This is a program which features the positive things in our Society especially concerning kids as well as families.

In a previous program, Kristine hosted “Pittsburgh Today Live” for 11 years on KDKA. However, her arrival in KDKA-TV was after she left her duty as a reporter in Dallas, Texas. This was after her graduation from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism with a master’s degree in Journalism.

She further has her Bachelor’s Degree in Government with a minor in dance from the College of William and Mary, Virginia, United States. Adding to her education, Kristine is also a holder of a Marketing certificate from Southern Methodist University.

Sorensen won a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award for her key role in her Human Interest stories in her Kidsburgh reports. For instance, she was recognized for the story of a colorful crossing guard and children in “A Musical Christmas Carol”. Her story about a boy with Autism who learned to speak through the help of a special iPad speaking device went viral getting the attention of many. It is said to have received an audience of more than 2 million people.

Furthermore, she won an Edward R. Murrow award for reporting and an AP Award for hosting Pittsburgh Today Live. The show also won the best news talk title.

Kristine’s hobbies take second place after spending quality time with her kids. Her hobbies include reading, playing tennis, taking dance classes, and enjoying Pittsburgh’s cultural institutions.

Sorensen learned dancing when she was young performing with dance companies for 10 years. One of her best moments is when she performed with Bodiography Contemporary Ballet company at the Byham Theater in 2013. Kristine further stretches her generosity to direct and run the talent show at her children’s elementary school.

She once served on the Board of Trustees for the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre for 10 years. She has even written about dance for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Kristine is a proud supporter of March of Dimes, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Beverly’s Birthdays, and Jefferson Awards Foundation.

Kristine first moved to Pittsburgh in 1999. However, she has lived in various places including Dallas, Johnson City, Tenn., Chicago, Williamsburg, Va., Milwaukee, and Winter Park, Fla. As of today, she prides herself to be a permanent resident of Pittsburgh.
