Laura Diaz Biography
Laura Diaz is a Southern California newscaster for KTTV Fox 11 in Los Angeles and a fourteen-time Emmy Award winner. Diaz began working in May 2012 at Fox Station. Since April 2010, she has been the solo anchor of the weekday editions of CBS 2 News from 6 p.m. until she left the station.
On CBS 2, she produced and hosted some “Eye on Our Community” specials. At CBS2 and ABC 7, she was the lead anchor. Fortunately, she was the first Mexican American to hold a lead anchor position at a Southern California English-language television station.
Diaz graduated from Hart High School before going to San Luis Obispo to attend California Polytechnic State University, where she attained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
Diaz began her professional career at KSBY in San Luis Obispo before moving to work at KFSN in Fresno. In 1983, she returned to Southern California as a reporter for KABC-TV at the station’s bureau in Orange County. At KABC-TV, she covered several major stories, such as the 1986 Los Angeles Central Library Fire, the 1992 Los Angeles Riots, and the Northridge earthquake in 1994.

Furthermore, in 1985, Laura began working as a weekend anchor. After three years, she began anchoring KABC-TV’s 6 p.m. weekend evening newscast. Additionally, she was named anchor in 1997 for the stations’ 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts. This made her the first female Hispanic lead anchor at an English-language television station in Los Angeles.
In September 2002, Diaz joined KCBS-TV as co-anchor of CBS 2 News at 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. with Harold Greene. Furthermore, she was one of the original hosts of the groundbreaking Vista L.A. on KABC-TV, one of the first public affairs programs in Southern California to serve an English-speaking Latino audience in the region. The program won twice the coveted Imagen Award for her being the co-host. Additionally, when she was working in Vista L.A., won three local Emmy Awards. In August 2011, she won a third Imagen Award as Best Local Informational Program when Eye on Our Community was selected.
Lastly, she joined the FOX L.A. weekend news broadcasts alongside Susan Hirasuna in May 2012.
