Lorna Luft Biography
Lorna Luft is an American actress, author, and singer who rose to fame as the daughter of accomplished American 1930s actress Judy Garland. She is also recognized for starring in films and TV shows as I Could Go on Singing (1963), Love, American Style (1973), McCloud (1973) and Grease 2 (1982), Murder, She Wrote (1985), and Trapper John, M.D. Luft even gained more fame as the half-sibling of Liza Minnelli and the only sister of John Luft.
Luft was born and brought up in the suburbs of Santa Monica, California. She was delivered as a healthy baby at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica. Luft grew up as a very passionate young girl who enjoyed watching her mother play various roles on set. Luft attended and graduated from the University High School in Los Angeles where she graduated with her major in theatre arts. She was also a member of the school choir during her senior year in college.
Luft made her debut as a stage performer and singer at the age of 11 by singing The Santa Clause is Coming to Town in a 1963 episode of The Judy Garland Show. She also appeared in the show alongside her other siblings Liza Minnelli and John Tuft. Lorna then appeared in the Great Day! Rare Recordings from the Judy Garland Show back in 2006. Luft then made her Broadway debut in a 1971 Shubert Theater and starred in the popular 1965 musical called Promises, Promises. In 1981, she starred in a 1983 off-broadway production called Snoopy! She gained international stardom in the 1930s by also appearing in various musical and dramatic roles in other Broadway plays like Judy at Carnegie Hall, Meets Me in St. Louis (1944), Judy (1956), Judy in Love (1958) and The Letter (1959). Judy died on June 22, 1969, in London, England, United Kingdom at the age of 47 years old. Luft grew up alongside on sibling named John Luft. Her other half-siblings are Liza Minnelli and more.
