Makayla Lucero is an American meteorologist who is currently working as a Broadcast Meteorologist at WUSA9 since joining the station in January 2022. Prior to joining her current station, she worked as a meteorologist at First Coast News from January 2021 to February 2022.
Lucero recently graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. While in college, she had several interesting research opportunities. She went to Rocky Mountain National Park and investigated avalanche probability on the mountainsides. In addition, she travels to Ecuador in South America to research flood management in a third-world country.
A passionate meteorologist, some of her internships include, interning at KKTV 11 News from May 2018 to August 2018. She also interned at WeatherNation Denver, Colorado. Her first full-time job came in January 2019 when she joined KLTV, in Tyler, Texas, as a broadcast journalist. After serving here for 2 years and 1 month, she left the station for a position at First Coast News, in Jacksonville, Florida, the United States.
Currently, she has worked as a full-time broadcast meteorologist at WUSA-TV, in Washington, since joining the station in January 2022. Outside weather, she enjoys running, swimming, and playing guitar.
