Biography
Margaret Brennan is an American journalist based in Wahington, D.C, who is currently the moderator of CBS News’ “Face the Nation” and CBS News’ senior foreign affairs correspondent. She began moderating FACE THE NATION in February 2018, becoming the second woman in the show’s 65 years history to hold the role.
Her interviews with leaders and newsmakers such as President Trump, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Vice President Pence, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have steered the show’s legacy as America’s premier Sunday morning public affairs program.
Brennan is an Emmy award winner for her 2018 Face The Nation interview with the father of a student killed in the Parkland high school shooting. This interview was included in the CBS News’39 Days documentary that took viewers inside the creation of a movement as students turned grief into action.
Margaret has reported on politics, international affairs, and global markets since 2002. Brennan joined CBS News in 2012. Moreover, in 2017, she was named White House and senior affairs correspondent.
Since 2012, she has been based in Washington where she has reported on Trump and Obama’s administrations, for all CBS News programs. Previously, she covered the State Department for four years, reporting on major security stories including nuclear negotiations with Iran, the standoff with North Korea, conflict in Ukraine, and the accord to transfer control of Syria’s chemical weapons.

Before joining CBS News, Margaret spent a decade covering the global financial markets. She anchored and reported for Bloomberg Television globally. In addition, Brennan was a correspondent at CNBC with a focus on the consumer during the financial crisis. She simultaneously contributed to various NBC News programs. At CNBC, Brennan began her career as a producer of the station’s “Wall Street Week with Louis Rukeyser.”
Additionally, Brennan is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations and sits on the advisory board for the University of Virginia School of Politics. Moreover, she is a member of the Gridiron Club, a John C. Whitehead Fellow with the Foreign Policy Association, and a member of the Economic Club of New York.
Margaret graduated from the University of Virginia with the highest distinction in a Bachelor’s degree in foreign affairs and Middle East studies with a minor in Arabic in 2000. She further studied Arabic at Yarmouk University in Irbid, Jordan. In addition, Brennan is a recipient of an honorary doctor of letter degree from Niagara University.

Moreover, Brenna is the mother of a boy named Eamon Brennan Yakub, born on September 11, 2018. On December 23, 2020, she announced via her Instagram that she was expecting a second child.

Brennan is the daughter of Edward Brennan, a senior director at the Guardian Life Insurance Company of America in New York, and Jane Brennan, an elementary school art and art history teacher in the Pennsbury, PA, school district. She has two siblings siblings, Catherine and James.
