Mark Giangreco Biography
Mark Giangreco is a renowned American former sports director and a lead sports anchor for WLS-TV in Chicago, Illinois. He has anchored the sports segment on ABC 7 News during 5 pm and 10 pm newscasts until 2021. Currently, Mark is an ESPN Radio Contributor.
Giangreco attended Canisius High School and graduated in 1970. He later joined the University of Dayton, Ohio, where he began his broadcasting career on WING Radio and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications in 1974.
Mark’s first television job was at a local NBC station in Dayton, Ohio. She served the station for less than a year and relocated to Louisville, Kentucky. After his four years’ stay in Louisville, Kentucky, Mark moved to Chicago to work for WMAQ-TV between 1982 and 1994 when he joined ABC 7 in Chicago.
In addition to anchoring the sports segment on the weekly newscasts, Giangreco hosted ABC7’s New Year’s Eve Special segment, “Countdown Chicago”, alongside Janet Davies.
Mark has been off the air since January on which he joked that anchor Cheryl Burton could play a “ditzy, combative interior decorator” on a reality TV series. Cheryl launched a complaint to the management, leading to Giangreco’s suspension and, ultimately, the exit agreement with the Walt Disney Co.-owned station, the Tribune confirmed Friday. Terms of the separation were not disclosed.
Currently, Mark is working at WLS-TV in Chicago, Illinois, as a lead sports anchor and sports director.
