Mary Bubala Biography
Mary Bubala is an American journalist and news anchor who was fired from WJZ-TV in May 2019. This is a job she had worked for 15 years. Bubala is famous for featuring in linking ex-Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh’s resignation to her race and gender. As of today, Mary is working as an evening news anchor at WBFF, a fox 45 channel.
Mary attended Glenbrook South High School in Glenview, Illinois. While in school, she served as a member of the Glenbrook South Television (GBS-TV). However, after her graduation from high school, she moved to New York to attend Ithaca College. Later on, she graduated from John Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science in broadcast journalism in 1991.
Just a day after graduation, Mary landed a job at WENY-TV as a weekday news anchor and weekend reporter. Mary got recognition with a regional Emmy for outstanding news anchor later getting a nomination for one of her coverage of the Freddy Gray protests.

She then joined WMAR in Maryland. However, it did not take him before landing a job in WJZ-TV in December 2003 where she worked for 15 years until May 2019. This was after Mary was honored by the Maryland Daily Record as an Influential Marylander in 2018.
Her firing came after she linked ex-Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh’s resignation to her race and gender. To quote, This is what Bubala said in an Interview with Loyola University Maryland professor Karsonya Wise Whitehead;
We have had three female, African-American mayors in a row who were all passionate public servants. Two resigned though. Is this a signal that a different kind of leadership is needed to steer Baltimore City forward?
However, a few months after she was fired from WJZ, Mary was hired by WBFF. She first reported working on Monday, September 23, 2019, according to General Manager Bill Fanshawe. She then featured on Tuesday 4 P.M newscast as a reporter for its lead story.
