After several CBS staff tested positive for coronavirus, prompting the closing of the CBS Broadcast Center, CBS New York, WCBS continues to be without a permanent studio.
At the beginning of the week, WCBS returned to the building for a brief period of time, using the CBSN New York collection, before moving back to Los Angeles.
The broadcasts switched to a split format on Wednesday, March 18, with New York at 11 p.m. On the sidewalk outside the Broadcast Center on West 57th Street, anchors Maurice DuBois and Kristine Johnson remain heavily reliant on the talent of KCBS. For the morning news on March 19, Chris Wragge and Calvi continued the format.
During each hour of news broadcasts, KCBS anchors DeMarco Morgan and Hermela Aregaw continue to be the face of WCBS, though local anchors have made a few appearances.
Meanwhile, the weather was able to continue in New York thanks to the station’s mobile weather truck.
With ‘CBS This Morning’ moved to the Ed Sullivan Theater and a host of other improvements to weekend production and overnight newscasts, WCBS is not the only broadcast affected by the closing of the building.
