Matt Howerton Biography
Matt Howerton is an American journalist who is currently working as a general assignment reporter at WFAA News the ABC Affiliate. In addition, he comes to ABC from KOAT in Albuquerque where he also served as a Reporter.
Prior to joining KOAT, he worked in Waco, TX, where he was an award-winning and Emmy-nominated reporter at KWTX-TV. He was first on the ground to cover the tragic fertilizer plant explosion in West, TX that claimed the lives of 15 people and covered the story for weeks as the community struggled to recover. In addition, he interned with WABC-TV in New York City in 2012. He was also an associate producer with an investigation team that returned thousands of dollars in restitution to consumers.
Matt’s reporting on the Texas Department of Criminal Justice recently earned him an Emmy nomination after spotlighting female inmates who make thousands of Braille pages for blind Texas students every year. His work on a horrifying bus crash in 2013 earned him First Place for Spot News by the Texas Associated Press.
