Michelle Gallardo is a renowned Mexican-American journalist currently serving as a general assignment reporter at Chicago’s ABC7. She joined Chicago’s No. 1 news team in 2004. Previously, she worked as a weather anchor/reporter at Univision Chicago for three years. In addition, Michelle has over 20 years of producing and reporting experience that includes local, national, and international news.
Gallardo also has well-established experience in the field of documentary production. In 2004, following the Asian tsunami, she traveled to Sri Lanka and Thailand to cover its effects. Airing on The Weather Channel and National Geographic’s Storm Stories series, the resulting shows received “Best Documentary” awards at the 2005 Telly’s.
Originally from Mexico, Gallardo started her journalism career as an entertainment reporter for Television Azteca in Mexico City. While there, from 1998-2000, she traveled to the U.S frequently, interviewing the top celebrities of the day.
Moreover, Gallardo got the opportunity as a freelance at CNN’s Mexico City Bureau. This was during the now historic 2000 presidential elections, whereby Mexico’s ruling party lost power for the first time in 70 years.
Additionally, some of Gallardo’s earliest experience however was earned through opportunities provided to her by Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, where she attended graduate School. Besides, in 1996, they include a brief stint as Washington correspondent for WMAQ radio, as well as a production assistant for GMTV (Good Morning Television) in London. Besides, upon her return to the U.S, Gallardo began her career in earnest. She got jobs in Washington DC as an associate producer and field producer for Hearst-Argyle TV and Conus Communications respectively.

Gallardo was born in Mexico City and has a dual citizen of the United States and Mexico, and is completely bilingual and bicultural. She spends her school years in Mexico City and summers with her American family in New York.
