Rod Gilmore Biography
Rod Gilmore is an American college football analyst who presently worked for ABC and ESPN since 1996. Throughout the season, Rod contributes to studio shows such as College Football Live and SportsCenter, as well as a weekly ESPN/ABC Saturday telecast. He was previously an ESPN studio analyst and an ESPN.com and ESPN The Magazine contributor.
Gilmore worked for Pacific Sports Network, SportsChannel Bay Area, and Prime Sports Network before joining ABC and ESPN in 1996. He graduated from Stanford University in 1982, where he was a three-year defensive back, and earned his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1986.
Rod was also a member of the Stanford team that was involved in The Play, a game-winning last-second kickoff return by the University of California Golden Bears on November 20, 1982. Rod is currently a member of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation’s Board of Directors and is an active member of the Oakland Babe Ruth Baseball Hall of Fame.
Furthermore, Gilmore is a practicing attorney in the San Francisco Bay Area in addition to calling college football games. Carter Gilmore, his father, was the first African American elected to the Oakland City Council. Additionally, Marie Gilmore, his wife, was elected mayor of Alameda, California, in November 2010.
Gilmore was diagnosed with blood cancer on August 15, 2016, according to reports.
