Rotimi Biography
Rotimi is a Nigerian-American actor and singer who gained fame for his Billboard charting afro beat song called In My bed. He also rose to fame as an actor by playing the role of Darius Morrison on Straz series called Boss. Olurotimi even gained more fame by playing Andre Coleman’s recurring role on BET’s Power directed and created by the legendary American Hip Hop star 50 Cent. Rotimi’s latest hit is called Make You Say released back in 2022.
Rotimi was born to Native Nigerian parents who moved to Maplewood New Jersey from Lagos, Nigeria. He grew up as a very active kid who loved playing various sports from a very young age.
Olurotimi attended and finished his high school education at Columbia High School where he played basketball and was part of the school choir. He then enrolled at Northwestern University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication with a minor in business back in 2010.
Rotimi began his career as an actor by playing the role of drug dealer named Darius Morriso on Boss. He then played guest roles on ABC’s famous TV series called Betrayal. In 2013, Olurotimi auditioned for a main role in Black Nativity which beame his film debut. The following year he appeared in a 2014 Festival film called Imperial Dreams and won the Best of NEXT award for his performance.
He launched his career in music as a contemporary R&B artist who was able to release two digital mixtapes titled The Resume (2011) and While You Wait (2011). He even sang as the opening act for various established singers like Jennifer Hudson, T.I and Estelle while they were on tour or performing. Rotimi’s most recent TV and film projects are in Singlehollic (2020), Coming 2 America (2021, House Party (2023) and Will Trent (2023).
