Ryan Hanrahan Biography
Ryan Hanrahan is an American meteorologist who is currently working as a First Alert Meteorologist on NBC Connecticut and can be seen weekdays during the 4, 5, 6, and 11 pm newscasts. Growing up along the shoreline in Guilford, his interest in the weather was sparked by the 1989 Hamden tornado, among other phenomena.
Hanrahan returned to Connecticut in 2005 after working as a meteorologist for WNYT, the NBC affiliate in Albany. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology. In addition, he studies atmospheric science in graduate school at the State University of New York at Albany.
During his return to NBC Connecticut, he has covered many of the state’s biggest storms including Tropical Storm Irene, Hurricane Sandy, the October snowstorm, and the May 2018 tornado outbreak across Connecticut.
He currently resides in West Hartford and besides forecasting the weather, he enjoys spending his spare time with his Golden Retriever, Doppler, relaxing on the beach or on the slopes skiing. Hanrahan also volunteers with Special Olympics Connecticut and visits schools across the state.
