Scott Connell Biography
Scott Connell is an American meteorologist who is currently working as a chief meteorologist at 5 On Your Side in St. Louis, Missouri and specializes in delivering St. Louis’ most accurate weather forecast. For 26 years people in St. Louis woke up to his forecasts. Filling that role meant he awakened each weekend at 12:30 am. In 2017, Scott moved more traditional sleep schedule and can be seen on 5 On Your Side on a weekend night and various newscasts throughout the week. He was however promoted to Chief Meteorologist in July of 2019.
Scott has always loved the weather from a very young age. He first caught the weather bug in 1979 when a blizzard blasted his hometown on the eastern shore of Maryland with nearly two feet of snow with drifts up to five feet. When he was in eighth grade, a new television station was coming to town and he read in the newspaper that they needed a meteorologist. This made him put on his navy blue blazer, gray pants, and a tie and walk to the station. At the time he was only 14, but he asked to speak with the general manager.
He says, “I told him I wanted to do the weekend weather. I found myself sitting in the news director’s office explaining what I could do for them. They must have been amused because he asked me to write a resume.” Scott still has the resume. Fortunately, the director created a position for Scott, allowing him to come in each week and research the high and low temperatures which gave him his first break in TV.

Later on, he graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. He also earned a Master’s in Geoscience from Mississippi State University. While getting his undergraduate degree he worked part-time for TV stations in New Bern and Raleigh, getting great work experience. He got his first time on-air at the NBC station in Raleigh.
Most notably, he started at 5 On Your Side in 1991, working alongside Today in St. Louis co-anchors Art Holliday and Jennifer Blome. He landed the nickname “Cubbie” due to his youthful appearance.
