Scott Farquhar Biography
Scott Farquhar is the co-founder and co-CEO of Atlassian. He is one of the Australian billionaires and directors at the Tech Council of Australia, a cofounder of pledge1%, and an investor. Previously, Scott was the director for Innovation and Science Australia. In 2016, he was awarded Australian Financial Review’s Australian Business Person of the Year.
He was born and raised in Australia and attended James Ruse Agricultural High School. After that, he transferred to Castle Hill Primary School where he completed his study. Later on, he furthered his study at the University of New South Wales, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science. In 2002, Farquhar and his friend Mike Cannon-Brookes founded the software company Atlassian.
The two met while they were studying at University and in 2001 they registered the company which was inspired by the Greek Titan. At the time they were founding Atlassian, Scott and Mike did not know what kind of company it would be but instead focused on creating a work environment where they could be who they authentically were and did not. Currently, the company has collaborated with more than 51,000 large and small organizations as its customers. In 2004, he and his partner were recognized for their achievements in the Australian Consensus IT Professional of the Year award.

In 2019, Farquhar was ranked fifth in the Forbes list of Australia’s 50 Richest People with a net worth of US$6.40 billion. He was listed fifth on the Financial Review 2021 Rich List with a net worth of A$20 billion. Prior, he is an assistant professor at the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of New South Wales.
