Stephen Sackur Biography
Stephen Sackur is an English journalist who currently presents HARDtalk on BBC World News and on the BBC News Channel. He was also the main Friday presenter of GTM on BBC World News and was a foreign correspondent for the station for over 15 years.
Born in Spilsby, Lincolnshire, England, he attended and graduated from Kind Edward VI Grammer School. He also attended Emmanuel College where he gained a Bachelor of Arts honors degree in history. After this, he joined Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government as a Henry Fellow.
In 1986, he began at BBC as a trainee and in 1990 he was appointed as one of the foreign affairs correspondents. As a BBC Radio Correspondent, he reported on the Velvet Revolution of Czechoslovakia in 1989. During the Gulf War, he was part of the BBC team covering the conflict. They also spent eight weeks as an embedded journalist with the British Army.
Between 1997 and 2002, he was appointed the BBC’s correspondent in Washington. In this position, he covered the Lewinsky Scandal and the US. the presidential election in 2000. Since 2005, he has been the regular host of HARDtalk.
He has received numerous awards during his career. He was nominated as “Speech Broadcaster of the Year” at the Sony Radio Awards in 2013 and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Warwick.
