Steve Weagle Biography
Steve Weagle is a CBM-certified Canadian-American broadcast meterologist known for working as the chief meteorologist for WPTV NewsChannel 5 based in Florida. He joined the station back in 1998 after leaving his long-running career as the lead weather forecast for CTV News in Ottawa, Canada. Therefore, Steve has worked at WPTV for almost 24 years. His most memorable and famous news stories include covering the 2003 tornado that made its course through South Florida, the 2004 Hurricane Frances and delivering the latest weather reports every weekday and weekend evening.
Weagle is a Canadian native who was born and raised in the small town of Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada. He moved to the United States as an adult in 1998 and settled permanently. Growing up, Steve was described as a very clever kid who was always inquisitive about the weather and the climate change happening around him. His favorite subject throughout middle school and high school was mathematics and science. His passion for these subjects made Steve think he would become an astronomer but instead, he got excited about the weather and pursued it in college. Steve was able to graduate with a UNB Science Degree in Mathematics and Physics and received his degree in meteorology from Dalhousie University. He then received his high-level CBM seal certificate from the American Meteorology Society for his incredible work.

Weagle began his career by working as an intern for the Weather Service. He delivered various updates and tracked different hurricanes across Canada and North America for almost two years. From there, he joined CTV News and began building a reputation for himself as a very competent broadcast meteorologist. He covered different winter storms that tore through Canada and its environs during the early 1990s and different Tornadoes that tore through Ottawa and other cities. His reports earned him a CBM Seal which is considered as the highest seal certificate that is awarded to the best Television meteorologist. In 1998, Steve left Canada and moved to Florida to work as a weekend weather anchor.
Eventually, Steve’s high qualifications and hard work earned him his current status as WPTV’s Chief meteorologist. He grew famous for his epic 2004 Hurricane Frances news coverage and reporting on the tornado that tore through South Florida and its neighboring states. As of 2023, Steve is still playing his part as the chief meteorologist for WPTV NewsChannel 6. During his free time, Weagle hosts his own self-titled Ride For the Red Cross event to meet and help every people in the Florida Community
