Steven Levitan Biography
Steven Levitan is an American television actor, producer, writer, director and former journalist who gained national recognition for creating succesful sitcoms like Modern Family, Just Shoot Me!, Stark Raving Mad and Back To You. He is also the main director and creator of an ongoing 2022 TV series called Reboot. Levitan even gained more fame as a producer back in the early 1990s for his work on shows like Max Glick, Frasier and The Larry Sanders Show back in 1995. He now holds three Emmy awards for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writer in a Comedy Series for his work on Modern Family.
Levitan was born and raised by a Jewish middle-class family living in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up as a very talented kid who liked creating different kinds of stuff like drawing and writing. Steven attended Glenbrook South High School and earned a good GPA. He then enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1980 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1984. Levitan was also an active member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at the University.
Steven began his career as a broadcast journalist. He worked as the full-time morning and evening news anchor for WKOW News based in Madison, Wisconsin. He also served as a part-time writer for Leo Burnett on his advertising campaigns based in Chicago.

Levitan quit his job as a journalist and moved to Hollywood back in early 1989. He worked on a popular comedy series called Frasier as the main producer and won the Emmy Award for outstanding comedy series back in 1997. His work became more popular and successful that he even received nominations for best outstanding Writer. Steven then produced more TV series and comedy sitcoms in the late 1990s like The Larry Sanders Show which became commercially successful.
In 2009, Steven launched his own breakout TV series called Modern Family and it became a national hit. The show made over $500 million dollars from its first season to its final season in 2020. Levitan’s most recent Television project is called Reboot on ABC Family.
